AAAS and the British Embassy will sponsor a lecture on by John Beddington, chief scientific adviser to the British government, on global innovation at 4:00 p.m. at AAAS headquarters, 12th and H Streets N.W., Washington, D.C. Beddington will be delivering his first address in the United States since he was appointed on 1 January 2008, succeeding Sir David King. In his role, Beddington is responsible for the quality of scientific advice within the government and for providing the prime minister and cabinet personal advice on scientific and science policy issues. Beddington was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 2001 and is a professor of applied population biology at Imperial College in London. A reception will follow the lecture.
