Regional Science Bowl PDF Print E-mail

The Washington, D.C. Regional Science Bowl will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Friendship Collegiate Academy High School located at 4095 Minnesota Avenue, NE, Washington, DC.  Volunteers are needed to serve as officials (moderator, scientific judge, rules judge, timer, score runner and score keeper).

20th Annual Department of Energy National Science Bowl
Washington, D.C. Regional Science Bowl

The Washington, D.C. Regional Science Bowl will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Friendship Collegiate Academy High School located at 4095 Minnesota Avenue, NE, Washington, DC.  Teams of high school students from the District of Columbia will participate in this event.

The winning team from this tournament will advance to the 20th Annual Department of Energy National Science Bowl, held from April 29 to May 4, 2010 at the National 4-H Conference Center, 7100 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, Maryland. 

Volunteers are needed to serve as officials (moderator, scientific judge, rules judge, timer, score runner and score keeper) and to assist at  the Washington, D.C. Regional Science Bowl.  Anyone is welcome to volunteer. 

Officials:
Scientific background:
* Moderator (scientific background required): reads the questions to the teams
* Scientific judge (scientific background required): works with moderator to ensure questions are read correctly, controls lockout system
 
Non-scientific background:
* Rules judge: ensures the rules of the game are enforced
* Timer: keeps time for each match (two 8-minute halves)
* Scorekeeper: maintains accurate scoring throughout each match
* Score runner: bring the score sheets and used questions to science bowl central after each match
* Science Bowl Central: sign-in teams, provide information to parents and visitors, keep scores of all matches, and maintain the competition boards
 
Volunteers need to attend at least one briefing/training session prior to the Regional tournament.
 
Training Sessions for the District of Columbia Competition:
* Wednesday, February 3, 2010 9:30-11:00 a.m. DOE Forrestal, Room GH-035
* Wednesday, February 10, 2010 2:00-3:30 p.m. DOE Forrestal, Room GH-035
 
The volunteer schedule will be completed by January 29, 2009, so be sure to sign up early.
