The primary purpose of this position, located in the Resources, Science, and Industry Division of the Congressional Research Service (CRS), is to serve the U.S. Congress as a Specialist in Science and Technology Policy, with a focus on the interrelationships among government, university, and industry science and technology institutions, policies, programs, and issues. Working directly with Members of Congress and congressional committees on public policy issues, CRS staff contribute to an informed national legislature as it considers policy issues of
importance to the American people.

As a Specialist in Science and Technology Policy, your duties will entail providing confidential, objective, nonpartisan, and authoritative expert public policy analysis and consultation to congressional committees, Members, and staff. This will include preparing innovative analytical studies on public policy issues of national or international significance; providing personal assistance as a national expert on public policy issues throughout the legislative process, by analyzing, appraising, and evaluating legislative proposals; and planning and leading multidisciplinary team research projects and seminars.

Candidates with a broad science, engineering, or technology background and who have led or worked collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams researching and analyzing policy implications associated with science and technology applications e.g. setting priorities for research and development, assessing risks and benefits of new technologies, interpreting research findings for regulatory decisionmaking are encouraged to apply.
