Job Posting: UCSF Director of Strategic Review and Programming
The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and the Immune Tolerance Network invites applications for the position of Director of Strategic Review and Programming.
The Collaborative Network of Clinical Research on Immune Tolerance (ITN) is an NIH-funded initiative to facilitate the advancement of immune tolerance-inducing procedures in human clinical practice, to develop new and improved treatments and monitoring protocols in solid organ transplantation, autoimmune disease and asthma and allergic diseases. The ITN, which combines the expertise of over 70 scientists and clinicians from 70 institutions from the US and abroad, develops new therapies in 5 broad areas and tests these new interventions in Phase I/II clinical trials. With more than $20 million dollars in funding per year, the ITN is responsible for all aspects of design and implementation of clinical trials and mechanistic studies. The ITN is housed within the Diabetes Center at the University of California, San Francisco with offices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Bethesda, Maryland. This position will be located in either Bethesda, Maryland or San Francisco, California.
The Director of Strategic Review and Programming is a critical senior-level position reporting to the Director of the ITN. The individual will play a key role in implementing the ITN strategic plan designed to interface with the academic and industrial community; will be a liaison to the scientific community at large to enhance the opportunities for the ITN and to disseminate information about the mission of the ITN and its policies and procedures to the scientific community; will be responsible for directing the work of the ITN Network Steering Committee (NSC) and Network Executive Committee (NEC) in the prioritization and evaluation of research proposals and will direct the process of soliciting and reviewing all research proposals. The Director of Strategic Review and Programming will have direct oversight of the ITN Network Steering Committee, the ITN’s main body for the review of Concept Proposals and more detailed Full Applications for research funding; will oversee the process for Concept Proposal submissions and assignment to appropriate reviewers; will advise potential applicants and Principal Investigators on the submission and content of their projects; will manage the review and evaluation of all Full Applications; will organize presentations by Principal Investigators of priority proposals to the ITN Steering Committee; and will perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The incumbent will possess a Ph.D or higher in the biological sciences, especially immunology, with a minimum of 7 years of experience in a management position within a scientific research or health science administration environment. He/she will have experience working with researchers in academia; a familiarity with the immunology community is required; and, knowledge of clinical immunology would be beneficial.
