DC BIOTECH is a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded project that is assisting the Washington DC Public Schools system to establish biotechnology as a twenty-first century career pathway.  The candidate will be responsible for the day to day coordination of DC BIOTECH activities with internal and external partners and stakeholders.

JOB TITLE: DC BIOTECH Project Coordinator

SUPERVISED BY: CASE Directors

POSITION SUMMARY: DC BIOTECH is a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded project that is assisting the Washington DC Public Schools system to establish biotechnology as a twenty-first century career pathway.  The candidate will be responsible for the day to day coordination of DC BIOTECH activities with internal and external partners and stakeholders (school and school system administration, teachers, students, industry partners, other programs).  S/he will provide administrative support for the project including data organization, meeting planning, some drafting and editing of documents and will ensure timely and accurate submission of reports and communications.  Some classroom instruction in biotechnology is required. This is a non-exempt position. Hours of effort: 40 hours per week. Salary range: $40,000-$50,000 depending on experience

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions:
1.  Initiates and maintains communications between DC BIOTECH project staff and school and industry partners
2.  Coordinates all activities required for establishment and continuation of student and teacher internships
3.  Maintains all data-bases and records for project
4.  Schedules meetings, rooms and coordinates calendars
5.  Visits schools (teachers, classrooms, administrators) for project implementation
6.  Assists with instruction of student summer biotechnology program
7.  Coordinates all activities for annual DC BIOTECH mentoring/dissemination conference
8.  Ensures timely submission of all reports to NSF and other organizations as required

Non-essential Job Functions:
Occasional evening and weekend activities
Make travel arrangements

Other:
Performs any and all other duties and responsibilities of a similar nature and character to those above, which may be assigned or directed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors or associates degree in science
1-3 years experience in the biotechnology industry or equivalent
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Good writing and editing skills
Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills with ability to multi-task
Experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Publisher)
Ability to work in a team
Comfort in an urban school environment with an ability to interact well with urban teens
